Happy New Month of August! May you receive a august visitation from the Lord in every aspect of your life this month in Jesus name (Amen). The month of August is special in it's own way in few ways.
- It's my spiritual birthday. It reminds me of the month I finally decided to say Yes to Jesus in my life (Hallelujah).
- It reminds me of another academic year, school preparation: back to school shopping, planing & evaluation of past years and what to do better in this new year.
- It reminds of the RCCG worldwide convention. The convention actually started few hours ago in Nigeria and it will end on Sunday. The theme this year is 'JESUS'.
Anyways, my devotion today was actually on-point. (don't get me wrong, everyday with Jesus is usually great time). However, the topic of the study today was "Godly Motives" and it was just on-time for me. The bible verse for study is from Psalm 139:23; AMP Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! This bible verse got me thinking about my motive.
A spiritual motive check is required daily for every child of God. I actually think this is fading away nowadays. We are now taught of teachings that says 'do this and you'll get that'. What about do this because it is right and it honors God?? Our motives in the kingdom as Christians has been shifted from God to ourselves. We are more 'self-centered' than to be 'heavenly-centered'. The bible gave us a good example in Daniel 3:1-30 where the three Hebrew men (Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego) choose to stand for God. The part that was mind-blowing when they said they won't bow down to the graven image even if God will not save them from King Nebuchadnezzar's hand (Daniel 3:16-18, NIV) Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[c] from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up". These men decided to be heavenly-centered and not self centered. Their motive was based on God and not on what they will receive from him.
The questions are: how many of you are like these men?? Are you doing those good deeds because you want receive it in returns or is it because it honors God?? Do you have your own agenda for going to church or you are going to meet with God?? Is the time you spent in fasting and praying for your own selfish desire?? What about the time you spend helping that fellow through that challenges, do you expect the same from the person or you did it because God told you to help those in need??
The list of questions can go on and on, but the point is: let your motive be centered on God and not on what you will receive from him if you do that thing. Today, I am imploring you to 'make a wholehearted commitment to serve God for the right reasons'.
Prayer: Heavenly father, search my heart and expose any area of my life wherein my motives are not true. Have mercy on me and give me the grace to serve you for the right motive in Jesus name (Amen)
I strongly believed that the Lord will answer that prayer and he will give you the grace to serve him wholehearted. Enjoy the rest of the week.
Stay Blessed!
